Little Pink Riding Hood
One of Maggie's favorite places in the house is on our stairs. Each one is just her size, and she can easily look out the front door's side lights from her vantage point on the third step. Chloe always loved this spot too. When we first got Penny, I tried to show her how great it was, but she would have none of it.
Mags spent quite a bit of time looking out the front windows today, as she watched J.P. clear the driveway. Take a good look at her—tomorrow all that long hair is getting shaved off.
We thought it would be a good idea to wait until we had 15" of snow on the ground before having Maggie groomed. But we're not completely heartless. She does have a coat.
Yes, I know it's really prissy. We're definitely not the type of people who shop for and dress up our dog. (It's true, we have purchased bandanas for her in the past, but they don't count.) See, when we were on our way to Minnesota, we stopped in Madison, WI, for dinner. The temperature was -4 degrees, and the wind was blowing like crazy. We took turns walking Maggie around the parking lot of a Panera Bread, and no matter what we did, she WOULD NOT GO. Did I mention that it was cold? It was so cold that eventually she began walking on three legs so the fourth one wouldn't have to touch the frozen ground. Then she stopped walking altogether, almost as if she was frozen in place. I picked her up, and she was shivering.
As soon as we'd finished our meals (eaten in the car so Maggie wouldn't be out in the car by herself in the cold), we drove to PetSmart and bought her the only coat they had that would fit. We tore the tags off and put it on her before we even left the store, and she's loved it ever since.
