Of Pizza and Procrastination

Mmmmm . . . authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. You can't beat it, especially when you're actually at Gino's to eat it. I just can't resist all that yummy gooey cheese, and of course I ate way more than I should've. But it was so worth it.

Yesterday's flight was an adventure. I'm trying valiantly to achieve Elite status on Northwest, so I opted to connect in Detroit rather than take the direct flight. And that's an indication of just how much I want this status. My mantra is typically Avoid Detroit. At All Costs. It seems I always have trouble there (but come to think of it, I don't think I'm unique in that regard--plenty of people have trouble in Detroit).

So we're on the approach into Detroit when we're forced to start circling because of a mysterious emergency on the runway. We never did find out what it was, but eventually it was resolved and we were cleared to land. We were bouncing all over the place because of weather, and after a few minutes the pilot came back on the P.A. to inform us that there was too much tailwind and we couldn't land on our assigned runway. Instead, we were being rerouted to Toledo for refueling. Toledo! It was starting to feel like I'd never get to Chicago. But after a few minutes, our sentence was commuted and we once again turned back toward Detroit. By that time, I didn't care where we landed. I just wanted to be On The Ground. I was the last person to get on the Chicago flight before they shut the door. Whew!

It's now nearly 11:00 PM Central time, and I'm prepping for the subjects I'm teaching tomorrow. Well, I'm supposed to be prepping. But here I am blogging about inconsequential stuff instead. I almost feel like I'm back in college on the night before I had to turn in a big paper. Except that was before I even knew what blogging was. Heck, I don't think I even knew what the internet was at that point. Holy crap--I'm OLD!
